The Drake Neighborhood is home to a growing population ranging from students to those who have lived in the neighborhood for decades. As the largest designated neighborhood in Des Moines, the Drake neighborhood is known for its historic turn-of-the-centrury homes and the college campus it surrounds. The neighborhood offeres several locally owned businesses, including bed-and-breakfast inn, cafes, restaurants, coffeehouses, sandwich shops, antique stores and movie theater.
Recent revitalization in the neighborhood has resulted in homes returning to their orignal function as single-family residences and many new businesses, particularly along University Avenue. With the positive changes in the neighborhood, the Drake Neighborhood Association (DNA) would liek to encourage everyone to visit the neighborhood and participate in communtiy events.
