CAPITOL PARK

The Capitol Park neighborhood on Des Moines' northeast side has one of the city's most diverse populations and boasts tremendous views of the state Capitol and downtown Des Moines.  The neighborhood features a mix of affordable homes and carefully restored Victorian and Arts and Crafts houses.
Its more than 48 square blocks include the Des Moines Botanical and Environmental Center, Burke Park, five churches, the Iowa Lutheran Hospital Campus, five ethnic restaurants and Veneman's Bungalow Court Historic District.  The neighborhood is also home to several schools.
Capitol Park residents enjoy a variety of recreational opportunities, including the Jim Mauro Recreational Area and the Neal/ Smith Saylorville bike trail.
