Martin Luther King Jr. Park is a quiet neighborhood made up of retirees and working people. many of the residents have lived in the area for more than 25 years. About one-third of the 6,000 residents were identified in a recent census as children under the age of 18. Residents in the neighborhood have made revitalization of the Martin Luther King Jr. Park a priority.
Three years ago, the city installed a $134,000 swimming pool there, and neighbors raised about $35,000 toward the contstruction of a $125,000 shelter house.
