The Fairground area has a new Fairground Neighborhood Association. The group is looking forward to working with the residents and businesses to improve the fairground area by working with city officials.
The Iowa State Fair brings more than 1 million visitors to the neighborhood every year. The Econo Lodge on East 30th Street (across from the Grand Avenue entrance to the Iowa State Fairgrounds) was completed in 2007 in time for the fair and is a welcomed addition to the area. The Econo Lodge provides lodging for people attending events throughout the yer at the fairgrounds, as well as for other visitors to Des Moines.
The Fairground neighborhood has a new strip mall on East University Avenue between East 23rd Court and East 24th Street.
