The Capitol East Neighborhood, once the oldest in the city, is home to nearly 3,000 residents who occupy a mix of single-family homes, townhouses, and apartments.
Following the formation of the Capitol East Neighborhood Association in 1989, the area became a designated neighborhood in 1990 and has since seen great progress in the renovation of its parks and homes as well as the addition of new businesses. the association and city officials worked on a residential redevelopment project on land located south of Capitol View Elementary School and East Walnut Street.
The area has experiences significant commercial growth in recent years. Steward Square Park has undergone improvements in recent years. other public parks include Redhead Park and Ashfield Park. Capitol East is home to several churches and schools.
